How To Name A Hurricane

This morning, Nicole got to talking about hurricane naming and how seemingly random the whole process is. Believe it or not, today’s hurricane naming system is quite simple.

Especially in comparison to systems of the past, like in WWII when hurricanes were named after the wives and girl friends of US Military. Or how about in the 20th century, when an Australian forecaster named hurricanes after politicians he didn’t like.

Today, there is an entire organization designated to naming hurricanes around the world, and it’s really not much more than a six-year rotation of six lists, each comprised of men’s and women’s names.  The names are used in order and alternated between male and female. Want to see if your name is on the list?

Have You Ever Witnessed History?

Have You Ever Witnessed History?

Usually Rich is the ADD one but Ryan had an ADD moment of his own last night when he thought about how it must have felt to be at the game when Derek Jeter broke Gehrig’s record for all-time hits with the Yankees, which led him to thinking about how cool it would’ve been to witness other historical events. He was actuallya t the game where Cal Ripken broke Lou Gehrig’s record. Leave it to Ryan to come up with something like this.

What if you were there when they knocked down the Berlin Wall (which someone actually called us with)? Or maybe you were at this year’s inauguration of our country’s first black president. Have you ever witnessed history firsthand? What was your experience?
