DVD Collections: Obsolete And Pointless?
The other day Ryan sold almost his entire DVD collection, only keeping a few of his favorites (like Bambi). He said it was pointless having all those DVD’s and Rich completely agrees (write this date down). With On-Demand, Apple TV, XBox Live, movies on your phone, the internet, and Netflix, owning DVDs in general has become pointless.
Soon, video stores won’t even exist anymore. You’ll be able to get whatever movie you want and whatever time you want. Plus, how many times do you really watch a movie? There may be some movies you constantly watch because they’re your favorite, but having a whole collection makes no sense because for those random movies you’ll be able to get whichever you want instantly with new technology.
Do you still add to your DVD collection? Do you think that DVD’s are becoming obsolete and pointless? What way do you watch movies the most – on cable TV, through your phone, renting, the internet, or DVDs you own? Help us clean this expensive habit up.

My husband could start his own video store with all of the dvd’s we have. He even keeps a list of them alphabetically and another list by category. Too bad he didn’t decide to start netflix. I wish he would sell all of his but it is never going to happen.
I love watching dvds I use the red box, where they r only a $1 day I think I have seen atleast 30 movies in the last 3 months
I love NetFlix. Not only do we save on the cable bill by not having HBO and Showtime, but we can get the movie we want when we want it. The only thing I will by on DVD anymore are entire collections of shows – like Lost when it ends. I plan to buy Pushing Daisies, will have The Office when it is all said and done and have almost finished my The West Wing collection!
my brother has just over 1,500 dvd’s he also payed more then a couple 1,000 for them and hes addicted to them lol but it helps him stay happy and keep his sanity so in his case its not bad
I still have many DVDs. Me and my mom love them and we use them almost on a regular day to day basis. I don’t think the technology like DVD players and bluRay players are going obsolete. Not quite yet. Hey, I still have a VCR for crying-out-loud! And VHS tapes that actually work. I don’t think technology can actually become “obsolete”.
I’ve tried netflix. And it’s great, but I’d much rather own the movie so I don’t always have to get on a computer to watch the movie.
